ODE Walkthrough - On Friday, September 23, Ohio Department of Education's Office of Exceptional Children and the State Support Team 6 conducted IEP Accommodation Compliance Review Walkthroughs in our building. Mr. Klein, Mrs. Klampe and Mr. Taurasi were included in the walkthroughs and the feedback from the officials was very positive. Quotes from the officials included:
- Compliant Plus
- Teachers knew the students accommodations/IEP
- Appropriate accommodations
- Behavior plans were being followed
- Amplification systems were being used
- Awesome-Great
- Teacher used a clipboard to monitor goals/objectives
- Educational Aides knew their role and assisted accordingly
- Physical Therapist included Speech/language goals as she worked with the student
- Teachers knew the students
- Very impressed
- I want my kid to go to this school
Great work, teachers! These individuals had no prior knowledge of the walkthroughs and performed very well.
NEOTIE Conference - On Saturday, October 1st, the next NEOTIE Conference will be held at Orange City Schools. It's a Technology Innovators in Education conference put on by Chagrin, Orange, Kenston, Beachwood and West Geauga. This year, we would like to sponsor the attendance fee for 3 teachers from each building. It's a fun day with great sessions by educators on how to integrate technology into classrooms. Lunch is provided and there are some great prizes. Staff members can receive PDUs for attending and have the option to purchase college credit. Feel free to offer this to interested staff at your building. The first three interested teachers that let me know they want to go will receive free admission.
Academic Support Forms - Please be sure to submit an academic support for struggling students in your class. Forms should be submitted with a student begins to struggle, three weeks of struggling and six weeks of struggling. There is also a form to be completed for continue documentation. See me and/or last week's post for more information.
Sunshine Fund - Andi Jahnke is chairing this year's Sunshine committee. Please consider donating to the fund. The money is used for staff cards, gift cards for special occasions and food for conferences. Thank you!
RESA Top 100 - Congratulations to Stephanie Meyer for receiving notice last week that she is one of the top 100 Resident Educator Summative Assessment (RESA) scorer's for 2015-2016. She is being recognized at a RESA Statehouse Reception on October 12th in the The Ohio Statehouse - Rotunda & Atrium. Fantastic work, Stephanie!
Congratulations to our Science Dept. - Members of our science department, Mr. Spotts, Mr. Raines (MS) and Sandy Kulp (LE) have received the Thomas Edison Awards for Excellence in STEM Education and Student Research for the 2015-2016 school year. "To receive the award, schools had (1) to conduct a local science fair with 20 or more students, (2) qualify one or more of these students for one of the Academy's 16 district science days, (3) have students participate in at least one more youth science opportunity beyond the classroom such as State Science Day, visits to museums, mentorship programs and extended field trips and (4) convince external professionals from STEM business and industry, government and academia employers how and to what extent the school’s program met the Academy’s definition of STEM education." It needs to be recognized that this department has won the award year after year and should be proud of their strong programs and leadership that continue to meet the award criteria. Great job, everyone.
Homecoming 2016! - Thank you to everyone that made Homecoming a fun weekend for our alumni, students and families. Our staff did an outstanding job of helping it all come together. Once again, a big thank you to Stephanie Meyer and student council for planning the large event. Also, thank you to Mrs. Gregory, Mrs. Sessler, and Mrs. Klampe for chaperoning the dance. The students loved seeing all of you when they walked through the doors. Congratulation to our football team on the 42-0 Homecoming victory. Check out all of the weekend's homecoming photos here.
Classroom/Field Trip Volunteers - The question recently arose concerning school volunteers or chaperones and their requirements for having a background check. Please know that anytime a chaperone or volunteer has unsupervised time with students, a background check is required. The district will pick up the cost of these checks. Please have the volunteer make an appointment with Sandy Tyler in central office.
Period Room Change - Please place a note on your classroom door if you are not in your scheduled room location. Include the periods you will be out of the room and the new room location. Thank you.
