Important Information
AIR Test Schedule - The AIR tests will be given during the week of April 11. Click on this link to access the Parent/Student Calendar and see what days each subject area test will be given. Each day during the week of April 11th will be late start bell schedule. Students not testing on any given day will report to school at 10:00 am where a modified bell schedule will be administered.
AIR Test Remediation - The week of April 17th will be test retakes. Any student receiving a score of a 1 or 2 on their 2014-2015 Next Generation Assessments will need to retake those assessments. There are approximately 40 tenth grade students per subject area that will be required to sit for the retest. This information is being communicated with THIS year's subject area teachers, tutors and special education teachers. Last year's scores are being mailed home to the families this week. All students retaking the test will be required to have subject area remediation prior to the week of April 17th. A plan is being developed to allow for subject area remediation to occur.
Infrastructure Test - West Geauga High School will be conducting an AIR infrastructure test on February 3rd during 1st period. During the week of April 11th (AIR week) we will administer anywhere from 100 to 390 computerized tests on any given day. This infrastucture test will allow us to see if there are any problems with our computer network or WiFi systems. Many teachers will participate in this test. This document will describe who is participating and any additional information needed for the test. Let me know if you have any questions.
AIR FAQ and Student Motivation - Last week I had a nice conversation with Kelly Klampe revolving around the AIR test and student motivation to succeed. Kelly has put together a couple shared documents that will either provide you with information for the AIR Test or help you motivate your students to want to do their best on the tests. Diversity Center - The Diversity Center of Cleveland will be at West Geauga High School to train our freshmen mentors in the areas of Diversity 101, (dis)Ability, Gender, Race & Ethnicity on February 19th. This all day training will prepare our mentors to present to our freshmen class on February 25th and 26th. A schedule has been created to help minimize lost instructional time yet provide important information and training to our freshmen students. The school's Parent/Student Calendar lists the times that two groups of students will meet. Student groups were divided by English class and can be found here.
Growth Plan - Prior to your formal or informal observation, ALL TEACHERS will need to complete a growth plan and self assessment. Please refer to the conversations you had with your principal last year regarding areas of growth. Your growth plan consists of two goals:
- Goal 1 - Student Achievement/Outcomes for Students.
- Goal 2 -Teacher Performance on the Ohio Standards for Teaching Profession. Refer to this link (page 12) containing the Ohio Teacher Standards. Select a standard you would like to develop and document it in your growth plan.
Observations - All teachers are either being observed formally or informally this year. If you haven't done so already, please set up an observation with your assigned principal. We would like all observation to be completed by the end of February.
