Important Information

State Awards - As you likely read in Dr. Markwardt's email to the entire West G Staff, the Ohio Department of Education has awarded West Geauga High School the “Overall A” award for the 2018-2019 school year. This accolade is awarded to schools in the State of Ohio that have an overall Summative grade of ‘A’ on the 2019 Ohio School Report Card. Only 209 school buildings out of over 3000 schools in the state received this award this year. West Geauga High School also received the “Momentum” award for greater than expected academic gains as demonstrated on the State Report Card.  Congratulations to all of you for these outstanding awards.  These awards are well deserved due to your hard work and dedication to our students.  Great job!

Academic Awards - Every year we recognize students for their outstanding accomplishments in the classroom and as leaders in their clubs and/or activities. Underclassmen receive awards at the academic awards assembly on May 20th and seniors on the evening of May 4th. Forms have been placed in your mailbox. Take the time to congratulate and thank our students for the great things they are doing in our school. If you are an advisor to a club or group, please make sure you submit and present awards for the two ceremonies. Department awards are also presented at these ceremonies. Please be sure to submit names to Joyce for these awards, too. Thank you!

Newbury Shadowing Days - On February 3, 4, and 6, thirty-eight Newbury students will shadow West Geauga High School students from 8:00 to 12:15.  The Newbury students will eat lunch and attend advisory period during their stay. Please join me and our host students in welcoming each Newbury student to West G. If these students join your class, please introduce them to your students and involve them in your class activities. Newbury students have been paired with WG students.  The document with details was shared with you on Friday.  

Band News - We have big news for our entire band program. Jason and Taylor were recently notified that the band was invited to play in London's New Year's Day Parade.  On Wednesday, February 12h, parade officials and dignitaries will come to West Geauga to present an official invitation.  An all-school assembly is being planned on the 12th with details to come.  Please be sure to congratulate Jason, Taylor and all band members for this prestigious invitation and opportunity.

4-Way Speech Contest - Chesterland Rotary is hosting a speech contest for any interested high school student.  According to their website, "The purpose of the 5 to 7 minute speech is to apply the principles of Rotary International’s 4 Way Test to a current ethical issue. Students are challenged to identify a topic they feel passionate about and to adopt a point of view from which they will seek to persuade others. It should be something from the speaker’s personal experience or general knowledge. There are no restrictions regarding the choice of topic as long as it is not blatantly offensive."  Please encourage our students to participate in this contest as scholarship funds are awarded to winners and finalists.   Click here for more information.
