Important Information
PSAT/NMSQT - The PSAT/NMSQT Assessment will be given to all sophomores and interested juniors on Wednesday. The test will begin immediately at 7:25; therefore, we will not have a late start for those taking the test. Second period teachers need to be sure this is communicated with your sophomore and junior students. Students should come prepared with two number 2 pencils. Last year the test went a little into 5th period. Since we are using the cafeteria, we will make an announcement to hold students in class at the end of 4th if the test runs long.
Girls Cross Country - Congratulations go out to our Girls Cross Country team and Coach Mike Taurasi for capturing the CVC Title this weekend.
Freshmen Assembly - On Thursday, October 27th, the freshmen class will be pulled from class at 10:30 to attend an assembly presented by Geauga County Prosecutors office. The topic will be internet safety. The assembly will last until 11:30 at which time the students will be dismissed to lunch.
Feedback to Students - Please remember when assessing student work that appropriate feedback is important for growth. Students need to learn from mistakes and errors on all class work. Simply placing a grade or marking questions incorrect does not promote student growth in your class. Feedback on the assessments and assignments is what will encourage your students to learn and grow.
WGHS Band Performance - Under the leadership of Jason Branch, West Geauga High School's Marching band was invited to play at The Ohio State University's Skull Session on Saturday, October 8th. Approximately 10,000 people viewed their performance where they received a standing ovation from TBDBITL. Following the performance, twenty students attended the game and sat directly behind OSU's band. These twenty also were granted field passes before the game, during halftime and after the game. Thank you, Jason, for arranging this awesome opportunity for our students. It was an experience they will remember for a lifetime. Mayfield Student - On Friday evening, a Mayfield student was fatally shot while he was working at Mr. Hero in Cleveland Hts. This very sad and senseless news may resonate throughout our community as many of our students work and attend Excel Tecc classes with Mayfield students. Please feel free to let our school counselors and/or psychologist know of any students that may be struggling. Please keep Mayfield's students and staff in your thoughts and prayers.

Science Students -A couple weeks ago, AP Environmental Science and AP Bio students from WG went to northwestern OH for two day ecology, geology and conservation biology program. After a morning with researchers from Black Swamp Bird Observatory capturing and banding migrating songbirds, students spent the rest of the day with educators at OSU's Stone Lab on Gibraltar Island in Lake Erie. Students cruised 5 miles into Lake Erie to collect data on the health of the lake. Monday evening and Tuesday morning were spent in various research labs and participating in programs focused on herpetology, geology, climate change and invasive species. Thank you, Mike Sustin, for providing this rich authentic experience for our students and for this detailed account of the trip.
