Important Information

First Week Reflection - Again, thank you all for your work in preparing for the first day of school.  For the high school, the first day of bell scheduled Zoom sessions was Thursday. Each of you did your essential part for your school and "classroom" to be ready. Great job! As Thursday and Friday came and went, we all breathed a sigh relief - the first two days were under our belt.  I spoke with several of our staff, and it was clear that Friday was easier than Thursday.  I expect each day will be less challenging as you plan and learn how to teach lessons given the new parameters and environment.  Keep up the great work.

Attendance - Please make sure you follow the building attendance procedure.  This includes period attendance.  Please see Theresa Poelking with any questions.

Teacher Work Day - As noted in my email to the staff on July 31, 2020, the teacher workday is from 7:00 A.M. to 2:40 P.M.  This was changed from last year to provide student supervision when they enter the building.  Students are asked to go immediately to first-period classrooms after arriving and visiting their lockers.

Virtual Open House - We are not holding our traditional open house this year due to COVID-19. Instead, please create a video introducing yourself and your class to WGHS parents. Your presentation should include a "snapshot" of your class, daily procedure, student expectations, grading expectations, grade posting to IC expectations, books/materials needed for the course, your email, and phone number.  Please also make sure parents know how to access their child's Google Classroom account, both as a parent and student.

Teacher Absence Policy During Remote Learning - If you need to take a personal or sick day, please post an appropriate assignment for students to complete during their class period on Google Classroom. Unless necessary for extended absences, the district will not hire a substitute. Please be sure to let your students know you will not be available for the Zoom session. Attendance will be taken by marking students who complete the assignment as "present." Please check the timestamps of assignments when you return and let Theresa Poelking know of any students who did not complete the assignment within the timeframe of their class period.

Vocabulary.com - The English department is utilizing Vocabulary.com with all of its students this year. This program can be used with all subjects and can be easily integrated into your lessons. Click this code to get a WGHS teacher account and learn more.

Masks - Masks must be worn at all times in the building unless you are in your classrooms working alone.  It is critical they are worn in hallways and common areas.

Rooms - Please notify custodial staff if a room is needed that is typically not used. We need to make sure the room is disinfected.

COVID Tech Resources - Jackie Hersh created a website with a list of resources from our first two PD days this year. Please visit the link on our district website under the staff drop-down menu "technology resources."

9th Grade/New Student Visit - On Wednesday, September 2, 2020, WGHS will host a visit for all new students to the building.  This event will provide an opportunity for students not familiar with the building to locate their classrooms and lockers.  The event will run from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M. Staff is welcome to attend.
