Important Information
Field Trips - Students that take field trips are responsible for work missed in classes while they are away. Please remind all students they are responsible for this work. If you take students on a trip, please submit a list of students who will be attending to Theresa Poelking at least one week in advance. She will send the list out to the HS staff. Thank you.
Reporting Absences - Please remember that accurate attendance needs to be taken every period of the day. Frequently, students who are absent all day are not being marked as absent until later in the day. We are under a legal obligation to notify parents within two hours of the student's scheduled arrival time if they are not here. Due to the number of students who attend CCP, Excel Tecc or have late arrival, it is important that you are reporting accurate attendance each period.
Advisory Period - All students out of a classroom during advisory period must have a pass. We are getting lackadaisical when requiring students to have a pass to be in the hallway and to be in advisory on time. Advisory is NOT an open period where students can come and go at will. Thank you for your help in addressing this situation.
Your WG Calendar - Be sure you have access to West Geauga High School's Parent/Student and Staff Calendars. You can easily add these to your school Google Calendar. You are expected to accept or decline appointments when invited to events by colleagues and administration. This is signaling a confirmation you are aware of the meeting. Please see Tracy Suba if you have trouble accessing any of these calendars.
Gifted Training - From Tricia Ebner - The final two Google Classroom topics needed for our high school and middle school teachers are now ready to go. Each is an hour long; the combination of our first three Google Classroom topics, along with the six topics I had originally planned out for PLC time, will give teachers the nine hours of online PD needed. Our face-to-face PD earlier this year was six hours, so that totals the 15 hours they need.
Academic Support Forms - Please remember to complete Academic Support Forms for any student struggling in your classroom. Procedures and instructions can be found by clicking here or on the Academic Support Form tab at the top of this page.
Family Communication - (From my email to staff dated Dec. 6, 2019) -
The end of the grading period is quickly approaching. I appreciate the meetings throughout the year many of you have had with parents regarding their struggling students. I have also been included in many pieces of communication sent home regarding the need for additional support opportunities for students as well as to praise our students for a job well done. Thank you for initiating these discussions. Our families expect communication and appreciate being informed and asked for input regarding their child's education.
As a reminder, it is imperative that personal communication is made with families of students that struggle in your classroom. In addition to completing academic support forms on a consistent basis, you need to reach out to parents via email or phone to keep them informed and to engage our families in supporting their children in school. At no point can we merely rely on grade posts made in Infinite Campus to serve as personal communication with families.
Thank you for your hard work to ensure all our students are successful in the classroom. I have enjoyed being a part of so many of these supportive conversations.
Have a great final two weeks prior to our well-deserved winter break.
