Important Information
PD Day - Great work on Friday! Thank you for being so attentive. Most of you worked with Tricia Ebner regarding gifted training while the rest of our staff meet in PLC's. Thank you to our specials teacher for meeting with me to work on pacing guides and curriculum maps. It was a day well spent.

Homecoming - Homecoming week was an enjoyable one for most of our WG students. All events ran smoothly and couldn't have happened without the assistance and support of so many of our staff members. Our band played with over 60 alumni and our cheerleaders cheered with a couple dozen graduates. Thank you to our teachers, coaches, and advisors for organizing the reunion. We had approximately 550 students attend the dance this year! Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Rader, Mrs. Sessler, Mrs. Klampe, Ms. Dietz, and Mrs. Jahnke for helping check in our students and guests. It was great to see Mrs. Demuch at the dance to support her STARS students! Our junior and senior class advisors, Mrs. Talty, and Mrs. Dwyer, and Mr. Shiban assisted with the annual Powderpuff game. Thank you! Again, all of this year's events were orchestrated by members of our student council with the leadership and guidance of Mrs. Meyer. Thank you, Mrs. Meyer! It was a great week that many of our students, alum, and guests will always remember. Click here to see photos from the week.
504's and IEP's - Please make sure you thoroughly understand and implement all your students' 504 and IEP plans. If you have any questions regarding any student plans, please see the appropriate staff member. School counselors coordinate student 504 plans and IEP's are coordinated by the school's intervention specialists.
STEM Award - Once again, congratulations to West Geauga teachers Alan Duncan, Kristin Gregory, Sandy Kulp, Aly Ledman, Stephanie Meyer, Scott Raines, Mike Sustin and Mike Taurasi for receiving Thomas Edison Awards for Excellence in STEM Education. "To receive the award, schools had (1) to conduct a local science fair with 20 or more students, (2) qualify one or more of these students for one of the Academy's 16 district science days, (3) have students participate in at least one more youth science opportunity beyond the classroom such as State Science Day, visits to museums, mentorship programs and extended field trips and (4) convince external professionals from STEM business and industry, government and academia employers how and to what extent the school’s program met the Academy’s definition of STEM education." It needs to be recognized that this department has won the award year after year and should be proud of their strong programs and leadership that continues to meet the award criteria. Great job!
Growth Plans - Per contract, Growth Plans were due Monday, September 30, 2019. If you haven't scheduled a meeting to review your plan with me, do so today. See previous bulletin messages for more information regarding completing your growth plan.

Scented Devices - Students and staff often have allergic reactions to air freshener and other scented devices. Please make sure they are not used in your classrooms. Thank you.
Sunshine Club - Thank you, Mrs. Jahnke, for organizing the Sunshine Club. Thank you to all of you that submitted $20 to join. Sunshine club will provide pizza, salad, drinks, and dessert for the staff on Parent-Teacher Conference nights. Food will be delivered at 4:15 and 6:30. Enjoy.
Social Studies In-School Field Trip - On Thursday, October 3rd during 6th period, West Geauga graduate, Andrew Puzder, will speak to all Government and Economics students. Since graduating from WGHS in 1958, Mr. Puzder has served as an attorney, businessman, and author. He was also the CEO of CKE (Hardy's) Restaurants from 2000 to 2017. Mr. Puzder is in town to present a keynote address at an award ceremony honoring Pat Preston (Preston Ford Superstore) this week. He is volunteering his time to meet with West Geauga students.
Bully Prevention - October is Bully Prevention Month. The month is designated to bring awareness and remind our student and staff about the prevalence of bullying in communities. Always be mindful of the conversations that are taking place in your classroom. If you observe anyone being improperly treated by another student or adult, report the incident to Mr. Krippel or me as soon as possible. We will often ask reporting staff members to provide a written account of the incident. The same is true if a student tells you about a situation where they felt harassed or bullied. Please let the school's administration know so the situation can be fully investigated.
