Important Information

Graduation - For the first time since 2001, West Geauga High School will graduate 100% of the senior class.  This is a huge accomplishment and is attributed to the hard work by our entire staff.  In your various roles, you work with students to see that all of them succeed.  One large measure of this success is that they all graduate on time. In a profession where results are not always immediate, this is one indication of success.  I am so proud of your work this year! Congratulations and thank you all.

End of the Year Checkouts - Check outs will be held throughout the day on Friday, June 2nd, when you are finished with all responsibilities. You can begin to collect signatures from Michelle and Joyce as early as Thursday morning. I will be in from June 6-9 if you would like to have some extra time to get your work completed. I will not be available to check people out on June 5th.  Detailed grades must be shared with me on Google Drive prior to checking out and are due in Infinite Campus no later than Wednesday, June 7th.

Track & Field - This weekend's Regional Track and Field Meet at Austintown saw two of our athletes qualify for the State Meet in Columbus.  Deanna Swinerton took 4th in the 800 while Alison D'Alessandro placed first in the pole vault. Be sure to congratulate these young ladies.  Also, congratulations to John Boylan, Mike Taurasi and Ryan Nightingale on the success of your athletes. Deanna and Alison will compete in Columbus on June 2nd and 3rd.  Good luck, everyone!

Senior Accolades - ONE LAST CHANCE - I am in the process of compiling a list of local, regional and state academic accolades members of the class of 2017 have received this year. If you advised a club, activity or team or have entered a subject area competition in which our seniors competed, please let me know the above information. 

Staff Cookout - On May 31st following exams, we are holding a staff cookout in the courtyard. Thank you to Dale Smith who volunteered to do much of the cooking. Due to the graduation rehearsal at the Palace Theater on June 1st, we will not hold a luncheon on the last day of school.

West Geauga Education Foundation - The West Geauga Education Foundation is looking for a teacher to represent the staff at meetings. Please see Mr. Bishop if you are interested or would like additional details.

Relay for Life - Get your teams ready for the West Geauga Relay for Life event at the HS's stadium on June 3rd.  Next Thursday, June 1st we will have a site check from 6:00-7:00 pm at the stadium. During this time you will be able to pick up your team shirts, find your team campsite around the track and ask any last minute questions.  See Cindy O'Janpa for additional details.

Letter - I wish all of you a fantastic summer.  You deserve time to relax and be with friends and family.  I leave you with this letter from very grateful WGHS parents.  Enjoy!

Hi Jay,

Well you and your staff are just about to complete an another amazing year at West Geauga High School. Words cannot express how thankful all of the families that have students attending the West G school system are to have a staff like yours that cares about our children and community as much as we do. When we moved to Chesterland 24 years ago we knew that the school system was one of the best in the state but until we started to have children and actually have them go through elementary, middle school and then the high school we could not believe that our expectations would be exceeded!

With our last daughter graduating this year it is hard to believe how fast time has flown by. From the Westwood fun fairs, to the middle school science fairs and concerts all are great memories that our daughters and us as parents will always have. With high school being the last stepping stone our expectations were again exceeded. From the caring staff and how prepared they made our daughters for college, the friendships and experiences our daughters gained from the high school clubs and the unforgettable experience of having a child in marching band! What a ride it has been.

Please thank the entire West G Schools staff for all that they do and although it may never always be expressed as parents we truly appreciate having a team like yours coaching our children to help them become more than what they thought possible. Have a great summer and well deserved break!
