Important Information
EVAAS - If you taught in a tested area last year, you received an email last week asking you to log in to check your value added information. This information included a score that many of you should be proud of. With this value-added information, the teachers "know how much growth their instruction has produced at the district level, the school-level, the classroom-level; and it tells you who is benefiting most from the current program" (Battelle for Kids, 2011, p. 3). Many of you at least achieved the expected growth from last year's students.
While that is good news, other indicators say we still have much progress to be made with our students. For example, we struggle to meet the state expectations regarding the percentage of students that are proficient with end-of-course exams. This spreadsheet reminds us that it is our goal for each subject area to have at least a 95% passage rate. The data also compares us with other schools in the state exhibiting high performance indexes and it is our goal to be among them academically, if not better. In addition, I have included another spreadsheet detailing the performance index of area schools that identifies where we fall. Please click here to access this document. As you can see from the links we are not there yet. We need to get there.
Most of your PLC's point to the nice work you are doing to prepare our students for the individual student outcomes the state is requiring. This is demonstrated through the high yield strategies utilized in your lessons, documented analysis of student performance on formative assessments and plans to enrich and remediate all learners. I appreciate your hard work with our students day-in and day-out. We need to keep in mind, however, that it is our goal to have our students reach a level of mastery (at a minimum) on each standard. With proper instruction, many students should demonstrate advanced levels of mastery in each subject area.
Thank you for all you do for our students. It is apparent you recognize they deserve the best and you are working to ensure they leave our school with skills and knowledge that will set them apart upon graduating from West G!
Plant Sale - On December 6, the horticulture program sells holiday plants and arrangements during all lunch periods. Please stop by the main lobby and consider purchasing something to take home.
Hour of Code - A big thank you to Mr. Spotts and Mrs. Cooper for organizing Hour of Code for all of our students in the building. This online program is a fun way to get students interested in STEM while learning to code computers, cell phone, tablets, etc. All advisory teachers will support this program by following the established program emailed out by Mr. Spotts. The only thing advisory teachers need to do is follow the established schedule and secure computers or Chromebooks for the event.

Evaluations - (Clipped from email sent to staff on November 11, 2016) As you may know, the association ratified the MOU detailing the evaluation process for this school year. This link will take you to the Performance Review Schedule for 2016-2017. This document is also found in your Teacher Opening Day Packet 2016-2017. Please note that a new column has been added indicating where each of you are in the three year cycle. A paragraph at the bottom of the document explains the evaluation cycle.
All of you must complete a growth plan in eTPES. Please have this finished by the time we return from Thanksgiving break. Schedule an appointment with your evaluator to discuss your growth plan after it is finished.
All of you are either being formally or informally evaluated this year. Please look at your calendar and let your elevator know a few good dates and periods for an observation. Staff members being formally observed should have the first round of observations completed by mid January.
