Tier 2 Strategies - As educators we must address intervention opportunities as they arise with students that continue to struggle in the classroom. Our goal is to build positive relationships with our students, but it is equally necessary to establish connections with parents. It is through these relationships that we encourage students to spend the needed time getting teacher support outside of the class period. I have read over and over again that your intervention recommendations for students include spending time with them before school, after school or during advisory period. Please be sure to communicate this with the struggling learner's parents. It is through this relationship that they will help to ensure these appointments are made and kept. Create an after school schedule that works for both you and your students and communicate this with the parents. Also, in many situations we have used Saturday school to encourage students to work on making class progress. This is another tool you have if needed but must first be communicated with the families as a positive approach to reaching the struggling learner. Please see me or talk to a colleague if you need help reaching your students.

Art Club - Thank you to Andi Janke and the Art Club students for creating a festive holiday environment. The Thanksgiving turkeys and the winter snowmen/snow women look great.
Chromebook Inventory - In preparation for the upcoming AIR Assessments, an inventory needs to be taken of ALL Chromebooks located in the building. There are ten carts plus miscellaneous devices in our building. Those teachers with a cart and/or miscellaneous Chromebooks in their room need to complete an inventory prior to winter break. Please make a digital copy of this Google Spreadhseet, rename it and record your inventory. When finished, please share your new spreadsheet with me via Google Drive. I have completed an inventory example to help with the process. Let me know if you have any questions while completing the inventory.
Mr. Boylan - Please keep John in your thoughts and prayers as he struggles with the unexpected loss of his father last week. Calling hours were Sunday and funeral arrangement have been made for today (Monday). Cards may be sent to John and family at 2096 Murray Hill Rd, Cleveland, OH 44106.
AIR Tests- If you are a tested area and have't done so already, you NEED to have your students walk through the practice test that ODE provides. Joe Marino provided the following steps to help English teachers navigate the test sign in process, but much of this can be applied to other tested areas. Thanks Joe!
Library Computers - We have had some vandalism to our computer in the library and throughout the building in recent years. Many of our building computers will be replaced during the next month and it is imperative to always supervise students when they are using the machines. Students should not be on the computers if an adult can not actively supervise the student behavior.
Copy Machines - When sending copies to machines throughout the building, make sure they are turned on prior to sending the documents. We have had situations where copies are sent to a machine that is off and hundreds of pages are printed when machine is turned back on. This can be very costly and wasteful. Thank you!
Substitute Teachers - Please have a conversation with your students regarding their expected behavior when a substitute is required in your room. It would be an appropriate time to remind them of the 3 R's: Respectful, Responsible and Ready to Learn.

- Copy and paste this URL into your browser...http://oh.portal.airast.org/ocba/students-and-families
- Click on the bike to the left that says "Student Practice Site"
- Click "Sign In" in the middle of the page
- Select Grade 9
- Click YES where it says, "Is this You" and Guest
- On the left scroll down to "Start HS English Language Arts..." & Click
- On the "Choose Settings Page" click SELECT
- On the "Is This Your Test" Page click "Yes, Start My Test"
- Select "Begin Test Now" (Unless you need to look at directions, etc)
- Read the passages and answer the questions.
- After answer question 1, look up to the right and select the next question (2, 3, etc)
- When done with all 7 questions, click the GREEN SAVE icon to the upper left.
- In the UPPER LEFT corner there is an arrow where it reads "Questions: 1 - 7 Marked." Click on the arrow & select Question 8.
- Read the passage and write the essay. Hit the GREEN SAVE icon.
- Select the END TEST icon.
- When it says ATTENTION...click YES
- Click Submit Test...Are You Sure...YES
