Important Information
Band Trip - West Geauga Marching Band will be performing at Disney prior to Thanksgiving break. The band will leave after school on Friday, November 20 and will return on Wednesday, November 25th. The majority of the band students will not be in your class on Monday, November 23rd and Tuesday, November 24th. Please provide the students with information on how to access class materials, activities and instruction prior to their departure.
Former Student - Many of you will remember former student, Nick Gehlfuss. Nick was an extremely talented star of West G TV prior to graduating in 2002. His career has grown and is now staring in NBC's new show, Chicago Med, which will premier November 17. Click here for the shows website and be sure to catch the show next Tuesday.
Bullying and Harassment Behavior - Always be on the lookout for harassing behavior. If you witness something that throws up a red flag, do not dismiss the situation and chalk it up to teenage behavior. These small conversations might appear as small incidents but may, in fact, be part of a larger problem. It is your obligation to report these issues to a guidance counselor or a school administrator.
Unattended Students - Do not leave students unattended while under your supervision. Keep your rooms secure and locked when they are unattended. This includes coaches and club advisors.
Connectedness Chart - Hopefully all of you had the opportunity to look at the connectedness chart to identify students you have made a connection with. Please take another look at the chart. There are 268 students in our building that do not have a staff members initials next to their name. Do you have any of these students in your classes, clubs, teams, etc? Reach out to them and make that connection! Evidence shows that students who feel cared for by adults in their school and those that feel part of the school's culture will perform better academically, have higher attendance rates and will less likely be involved in disciplinary issues.
Veterans Day - Veterans Day is Wednesday, November 11th and West Geauga HS has several events lined up for the day. Veterans will talk to the social studies classes as well as the students during advisory period. A flag raising ceremony is also scheduled shortly after the beginning of 1st period. Please bring your students to the flag pole if you are interested in attending. Encourage the students to dress in patriotic clothing and colors as the girls scouts will be awarding a prize for the best dressed. Please welcome these veterans as guests in our building.
Football Playoffs - Congratulations to our Wolverine Football Team as they defeated Buckeye High School Friday night in triple overtime. This is only the second time in Wolverine Football history that we have won a playoff game. The Wolverines will play Saint Vincent Saint Mary's this Friday and Ravenna High School. It is anticipated we will take another spirit bus to the game this week. Please let Joe Leonette know if you are interested in getting a free admission and field passes to the game (may involve riding a spirit bus). Congratulations to Lou, his staff and the entire team on their big win against Buckeye.
