Important Information
Welcome Back - It was a great to see all of you back! I enjoyed hearing stories of your summer experiences and look forward to the renewed energy you bring to the upcoming school year. Looking at the quote above, I keep company with an outstanding staff that continually uplifts, inspires and drives me to become the best educator I can. I feel extremely lucky and fortunate to work with such an outstanding group of people. Thank you. Let's have a great year!
SLO Assessments- A schedule will be created soon that will let you know when to give your SLO assessment. For your timeline, all assessments will be given and graded prior to September 30th.
Permanent Passes - As you begin to give out permanent passes to your students, please keep in mind that passes are limited to two passes per teacher per period. Permanent Passes are meant to be used by students to attend the learning center or assist a teacher in the classroom.
PTO - Please join! - Throughout the year the PTO supports our staff and students in many different ways. Please consider becoming a member by completing the application here. Thank you those of you who have already joined.
Alumni - Here is an outstanding story about a West G grad. Chris Matz is a 2004 graduate who started an eye wear company with another West G grad, Jon Hartman. Check it out here.
Opening Day Paperwork - Please return all staff opening day paperwork to Joyce as soon as possible. Click here to record your staff directory information. The staff directory information is going to Sandy Tyler in the board office.
Propped Doors - It has already been brought to may attention that outside doors are being propped open. Let students know this is not acceptable.
Staff Member - Please keep Mark W. in your thoughts and prayers as he recovers from heart surgery this week. He is now home and doing much better.
Congratulations to Mike S! - Mike has been selected to receive the Presidential Innovation Award for Environmental Educators by the Unites States Environmental Agency. Check out the article here. Nice job, Mike.
Bullying and Harassment Behavior - Always be on the lookout for harassing behavior. If you witness something that throws up a red flag, do not dismiss the situation and chalk it up to teenage behavior. These small conversations might appear as small incidents but may, in fact, be part of a larger problem. Report these issues to a guidance counselor or a school administrator.
PLC - This week is our first PLC Wednesday of the year. As stated and recognized on PD Day, we are all at various points in completing our maps, SLO's and pacing guides. Stay focused on your department's work and please let me know if you have any questions.
Freshman Mentoring - This week is our first freshman mentoring session. Ms. Widman will be contacting you if you are to observe the mentoring sessions. If you are a freshman homeroom teacher, please let your students know about Wednesday's late start and the mentoring program.
Monitor Halls - Please stand at your door between periods. Not only does this help curb any negative behavior, it is a nice gesture to greet the students as they enter your room.
Google Classroom - This looks like a great tool and many of you have already implemented this in your classes. Mr. Connell has volunteered to help anyone interested in setting up their account. Three easy steps will get you to Google Classroom.
