Important Information
Academic Referrals- Reminder that Academic Support Forms need to be submitted as soon as a student is struggling in your class. Also submit forms after a student has been struggling at three weeks and six weeks. Link to forms are located at the top of this page.
Midterm Exams - Midterm Exams will follow a similar schedule to the past couple years. Please follow this link to this year's schedule. In the past we have had many phone calls from parents excusing their children from school during non testing periods. Please adhere to this schedule and keep the lessons relevant when you are not testing. Explain to your students that they are expected to be in class every day during midterm week.
Quarterly Assessments - Quarterly assessments provide an opportunity to evaluate the students' knowledge and skill development of the big ideas or domains of content taught during the quarter. They will provide an opportunity for the students to see the "big idea" questions multiple times throughout the year. While unit assessments are important, they are limited to the content or big ideas taught in that section. Please work to create quarterly assessments.
Common Vocabulary - I wanted to provide further information regarding the topics that were discussed and questions that were asked during our meeting yesterday. The quote from Supt. Ross states:
"This year’s Ohio Graduation Tests will align to both the current standards and Ohio’s New Learning Standards. Next year, both the Ohio Graduation Tests and Next Generation Assessments will align to Ohio’s New Learning Standards."

- Parcc (English & Math) - You should look at the Parcc examples online and begin to use these types of assessments in your lessons.
- State Developed Assessments (Science & Social Studies) - Ohio is designing their own Science and Social Studies assessments. West Geauga has been invited to participate in their online field test program. More information will follow. Click here for more information.
- Online Assessments - Currently, all Next Generation Learning Assessments are designed to be computer based.
Keep Students Out of the Halls - Please limit the number of students that you let out of your classrooms to use the restrooms. A good classroom policy might be to give a student one pass per quarter or even per semester. Issue points to students who are tardy to your class without a pass.
PLC- Great job with the work you are doing with your PLC's. Please have a goal of completing your second quarter Common Core Curriculum Maps by the January 17th.
