Thanksgiving Gratitude - I owe my sincere thanks and gratitude to the high school teachers and staff during this holiday season. These past several years certainly have not been easy with the changes to the state testing, report cards, data meetings, and online assessments, just to name a few. You work hard to do what is right for the West G student and it shows. Thank you for all you give to your school and profession. It certainly does not go unnoticed. Happy Thanksgiving! All my best to you and your family. I hope to see all of you for lunch on Tuesday.
Edulastic Course - Edulastic is now offering a certified professional program. The program requires you to complete a course in order to become an expert on Edulastic digital assessments. Since so many of you use Edulastic, it would be a great opportunity for you to learn the ins and outs of the program. We will be offering contact hours that can be applied to your license renewal. Just make sure your IPDP goals align with assessment development or technology. Contact Mrs. Sessler if you have questions. Click here for information on becoming an Edulastic Certified Teacher.
Vaping - Underage vaping continues to a big problem. Earlier this year, the FDA announced a crackdown on vaping companies that market their products to minors. Just last week, Juul made the news by eliminating the trendy flavored products. Hopefully, this will reduce the number of children that are becoming addicted to vaping. However, these devices are still popular with West Geauga High School students. As I have said in the past, students are using these products in classes, study halls, and the hallways. Please be vigilant in looking out for student vapers and report them immediately to the office. Thank you.
Dabbing - Dabs are concentrated doses of cannabis that are made by extracting THC and other cannabinoids using a solvent like butane or carbon dioxide, resulting in sticky oils also commonly referred to as wax, shatter, budder, and butane hash oil (BHO). Students are able to dab in school and rarely get caught. Similar to using e-cigarettes (vaping), dabs are inhaled through vaporizing pens or dab pens. Students that use these products are able to get high from the THC. There are no smoke particles released when the devices are used, therefore, no or very little smell. Again, please be vigilant in looking out for these devices and students using them. Report students to the office if found to be in possession or using dab pens.
